Market Research to Predict Black Friday 2020 Shopping Trends

Presented by Drive Research

The holiday season is right around the corner, but major shopping events, like Black Friday (Friday, November 27th), are predicted to change this year.

Drive Research conducted an online survey with 2,000 U.S. consumers to predict this year’s Black Friday shopping trends. We discovered many participants, 57% to be exact, plan to stay home due to health and safety concerns.

2019 Black Friday vs. 2020 Black Friday

Over the past several years, in-person Black Friday shopping has become a fading tradition. In 2019, 93.2 million shoppers made a purchase online during Black Friday, and in-person retail shopping decreased by 6.2% from 2018.

According to our research, the online Black Friday shopping trend is progressing into 2020 and will be more popular than ever this year.

Our data showed only 1 in 6 American shoppers are planning on shopping in-person on Black Friday. When comparing the data from 2019 to 2020, the desire for in-person shopping has dropped by 44%.

On the contrary, 54% of U.S. consumers say they will likely make an online purchase on Black Friday this year. This marks a 28% increase from 2019.
